Between traveling the world for free or achieving your childhood dream, which would you pick? But why not both, right?
One of the most fulfilling things in life is settling in a career you love instead of dragging yourself to an eight to five work. Like the quote that goes, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This is what Roelandt John Gallardo or simply RJ is trying to achieve — working full time and enjoying to the fullest, all at the same time.
Like every pilots’ story, RJ’s childhood dream is to see the world from above. His fascination towards aircrafts brought him to the desire of exploring airplanes himself.
“As cliche as it sounds, being a pilot has always been a childhood dream of mine. When I was a kid, there was a time when I would count airplanes I see in the sky and imagine myself riding or flying one. As a curious boy growing up, I’ve always wondered how a single person could fly an enormous airplane safely and accurately. That thought stuck to me and fuelled my desire to pursue a career as a pilot,” RJ explained.
Travelling is not a cheap hobby. It’s something you need to plan ahead of time. But being a pilot will make it all easier to be in another part of the world. It’s a dream come true for a traveller to be always moving and exploring a new destination from time to time.
“I like to see new places, learn new languages, immerse myself in different cultures, meet people in all walks of life, and most importantly eat local delicacies from around the world. So when I get hired as a commercial pilot, I could do all these for free. And even if I only get to spend a night in a new place, that would still be an adventure to me. This excites me knowing that I would never get tired of doing what I love most.”
Aside from the fact that traveling would be part of the job, your families and loved one would be enjoying this perk. It is also one of the reasons RJ is excited about on being a pilot.
“It’s common knowledge that most pilots and their families get free or discounted flight tickets; who wouldn’t want that? I would certainly want my family, especially my parents to go to any destination they like. There’s nothing more fulfilling than giving back to them and seeing them discover the wonders of the world.”
But before dwelling on his aviation dream, RJ had to go through of choosing the training academy that suited his needs and would help him become the pilot he wants to be.
“The biggest challenge for me was to find the right school that would fit the budget and at the same time provide the best quality of training. It was difficult for me since I’m a first generation pilot and the only other pilot I knew during that time was my teammate in highschool. So I had no one to talk to regarding questions I have about aviation.”
After discovering its good reputation in the quality training, payment flexibility and adequate facility, RJ then enrolled at the OMNI Pilot Training School. Alongside the training experience he was expecting, he gained more than that. He said the Academy gave him a new family, and for that reason, he considered his training experience irreplaceable.
“When I took my first step inside the premises of OMNI Aviation, I saw how everyone respected each other; greeting each other with big smiles, whether you’re an admin, instructor, co-student or a visitor.”
OMNI is more than a training school for RJ. For him, it’s already a second home where there are skills and knowledge development. Its also where he is continuously improving his interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
“OMNI encourages everyone to see each other as a family and that’s what I love the most about the school. I met people that became a huge part of my life now. I gained life-long friends and a mentor, my primary flight instructor, who I look up to. And if you asked me if I’ve ever considered transferring at any point in my training, my answer would be no, for the exact same reasons,”
“OMNI give big importance to developing a healthy relationship based on mutual respect and teamwork amongst the students, flight instructors and administration.”
And after the training, RJ would face another chapter of his path towards the aviation industry and it is achieving his license. But with all the learnings and skills the Academy is incorporating to its student, it’s no doubt RJ can finally live up to his childhood dream. Traveling as a career in the airline industry comes with a price yet he is already on his way to become the pilot he wanted to be.
