The global commercial aviation industry is evolving. Its rapid growth demands more manpower. By 2025, the industry will need additional 255,000 pilots to sustain its progress. The number of pilots manning the skies needs to keep up now and in the coming years. Otherwise, the industry will fail to sustain the demands brought by its growth.

CAE, Inc., a training company, recently published its 10-year broadcast to address the growing need for more pilots. According to the report, over half of the required pilots have not started training yet. This could result in potential problems in the aviation industry.

The issue with increasing passenger air traffic looms upon the airline industry, which is foreseen to increase twice its current state in the next 20 years.

The report states, “Rapid fleet expansion and high pilot retirement rates create a further need to develop 180,000 first officers into new airline captains, more than in any previous decade.”

To conclude, the aviation industry is currently experiencing a shortage of pilots. Resolving the problem as soon as possible is crucial to meet the projected heightened demands of the aviation industry. Professional airline academies are required to pitch in and build that pipeline.

Based on the United Nation’s (UN) aviation agency, which creates global standards often regarded by regulators from 191-member countries, obtaining a commercial pilot license for work as co-pilot requires a minimum of 250 hours.

Meanwhile, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) states that a pilot has to fulfill a minimum requirement of 1,500 hours to become a captain under its norms. ICAO is the UN agency supporting the development of international aviation.

Before meeting these standards, pilots have to undergo rigorous training in flying schools to qualify in the aviation industry. The OMNI Airline Training Academy is among the distinct flying schools in the Philippines offering programs for aspiring pilots. Visit omniaviation.com today for more information.
