Revent Events

As an archipelago of unique scenery and beauty, the Philippines is truly one of the best places to visit. With a sundry of attractions and destinations, local and foreign visitors alike will not run out of escapades. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a much unexpected stoppage has put the whole travel and tourism industry in a standstill. In the previous year, the worldwide pandemic has resulted to the halt of most activities, and having a soak under the sun seemed to be just a far off dream. Sipping drinks and exploring the night life feels like a thing of the distant past. It might sound frivolous to think of such things during a pandemic, but admit it or not, going to new places and immersing in unfamiliar environments is a big part of boosting motivation and of recharging one’s physical and mental well-being.

For a country that takes pride on its tourism, the Philippines has been hard-hit with the halt of travels. The various destinations and the people relying on the related livelihood are very much affected. From the usual droves of tourists visiting the country throughout the year, 2020 resulted to a massive drop in visitors. As tourism is a massive part of local life and the economy in general, the government has been making an effort to ensure that at least domestic travels will be open for locals. Consequently, this goal has taken off with the initiative of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and their “Have a Safe Trip, Pinas” campaign. The said campaign aims not only to promote safe tourism under the new normal but also shows the effect of the return of tourism to the local community. To convey its message, DOT has collaborated with artists and has even adapted to the virtual setting by being present in well-know social media platforms. These efforts are starting to pay off, local destinations have started to re-open borders to travellers following a strict implementation of healthy and safety protocols.

To date, popular vacation spots such as Boracay, Baguio and Palawan to name a few have re-opened their doors to local tourists with health and safety protocols posted for travellers. And to assist and show its support, DOT alongside its marketing arm, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), has distributed promotion materials to accredited establishments and enterprises. This initiative does not only aim to boost the recovery of the Travel and Tourism in the country but also to ensure that these spots will prioritize the safety of visiting tourists. In this unrelenting pandemic, majority of the population have discovered a new appreciation of every new opportunity to get out and travel in a safer environment. With the ongoing push for the vaccination of the general population, it seems that the unique musty smell of the sea and the fine grains of white sand is just a few health and safety protocols away. Now that domestic travel is at least possible, let us keep the message “Have a Safe Trip, Pinas” in mind.
