An Open Letter to All Airline Crew Who Serve in the Face of COVID-19

To our brave stewards, pilots and ground crew,
These past couple of months have been scary, with paranoia gripping the globe and shutting borders. We travelers are fearful that the virus might take hold of us next. And yet you, like superheroes flying 35,000 feet in the sky, give us courage with your reassuring smiles and unfaltering service.
In times such as this, your commitment to serve stands out even more to us. Sometimes it’s lost on people how dangerous your career can be. From the constant possibility of life-and-death situations to the perils of working with and in an aircraft every single day, your duty to safeguard and care for us is challenging enough without the threat of a fatal virus. Some of you went even more above and beyond the call of service to bring home people in critical places, to comfort those endangered by the outbreak, risking your own health and wellbeing in the process.
From the very bottom of our hearts: we want to say thank you. For your fearless dedication, for your tireless reassurance and for the love that you give that may sometimes go unnoticed. In the midst of this global crisis, you are the link that keeps nations and races connected through shared humanity. Please know that millions are grateful for your service and even more are praying for your continued safety.
You are heroes.
Sincerely,
Your Grateful Passengers
